About
Us. Who we are and where we came from.
The Company's
History
We're one of
the oldest electrical contracting firms serving industrial,
institutional, and utility clients in Virginia and the Mid Atlantic
States. The firm was started in January 1946 by James B. Moore, Sr.
shortly after the close of World War II. ( Below: That's JB, his
wife Evelyn and JB Jr. standing by the first company truck in 1946).
In the 1960's Mr. Moore's two sons, J. B. Moore Jr.
and Gene H. Moore began working for the family business. The company
was changed from a partnership to a stock C Corporation in 1969. In
1976 Gene H. Moore was elected President upon the retirement of Mr.
Moore, Sr. J. B. Moore remained active in the business as a
consultant well into the 1990's.
The 70's brought in many new challenges with the
firm becoming a pre-qualified contractor with the Virginia
Department of Highways, (latter becoming VDOT). The first set of
traffic signals installed by the firm was in Williamsburg in 1972.
An unlimited electrical license for North Carolina was obtained in
1976. In 1977 we saw the completion of our first one million dollar
electrical job at the Lynchburg Wastewater Plant.
The 1980's took us into the
Carolina's to complete several jobs at Fort Bragg, and the new
fourteen story control Tower and Radar Facility at Raleigh Durham
Airport. We also were busy installing and linking over 35 new
traffic signals for the Central Business District in the City of
Lynchburg.
The 90's were our foray into fiber optics. We
designed and installed over 44 miles of fiber for the City of
Lynchburg's new fiber optic backbone system. We are still busy
expanding this system today.
Our Mission
To provide
the best electrical and communication installations and service,
while creating a safe and healthy workplace for our employees. To be
a good corporate citizen among our neighbors. To be known for
fairness among our suppliers. To be feared but respected by our
competitors.
Our Philosophy
If its
Electrical then we can do it. The trend over the past decade has
been for electrical firms to merge with or start up HVAC and
plumbing divisions, or vice-versa. The management at J. B. Moore
believes that the electrical field is so diverse that we can do the
best job for our clients by sticking to what we have been doing for
the past six decades. It is from this base that we continue to expand
and grow. |
