The Early Days
Since its founding in 1946, J.B. Moore has grown to become one of the largest and better known electrical contracting firms serving the central Virginia area. Along the way we have had the opportunity to perform some of the most diversified and unusual types of installations. We have always enjoyed the challenge to perform the unusual for our clients, after all, it's the pride in our workmanship that keeps our juices flowing, and the satisfaction of our customers that keep us in business.

Growing Through the 1970s and 1980s
During the 1960s, Mr. Moore's sons, J.B. Moore Jr. and Gene H. Moore, joined the family business. They learned the trade and helped us achieve several important milestones.
- 1969 — The company was changed from a partnership to a stock C corporation
- 1970 — We became a pre-qualified contractor with the Virginia Department of Highways (later to become VDOT)
- 1972 — We installed traffic signals in Williamsburg
- 1976 — We obtained an unlimited electrical license for North Carolina
- 1976 — J.B. Moore Sr. retired. Gene was elected president of the company, and his father continued to advise us as a consultant well into the 1990s
- 1977 — We completed the Lynchburg Wastewater Plant, our first million-dollar project.
- 1980 — We completed several jobs at Ft. Bragg and the new 14-story control tower and radar facility at Raleigh-Durham International Airport. We also installed and linked over 35 new traffic signals for the Central Business District in Lynchburg, VA
Into the 90's and Onwards
As technology evolves, J. B. Moore Electrical Contractor has helped area businesses and industries get access to it. The computer age has created an incredible demand for our services, including increased electrical wiring for workstations and a need for fiber-optic cable. During the 1990s, we installed over 44 miles of fiber-optic cable for the City of Lynchburg. We are still expanding that system today.
J. B. Moore Electrical Contractor is one of the oldest electrical contracting firms in Virginia and the Mid-Atlantic states. Our company is still locally and family owned, and we continue to provide exceptional resources and services across a wide range of users and applications.
